Saturday, September 8th at the 20th annual SEPL Foundation Reverse Raffle and Auction, the SEPL Foundation presented Scott Wise with the Jett & Lillian Mohr Service Award. The SEPL Foundation established the award in 2014 to be presented annually at the reverse raffle and auction. Its purpose is to recognize an individual or group who has significantly supported the Seneca East Public Library or the SEPL Foundation. Learn more about the award HERE.
Scott works for Sutton Bank and is also a public notary. Scott served two terms on the Huron County Community Foundation Board for a total of nine years and is now in his fourth year of mentoring a fourth-grader through the Willard School system. As a charity project, Scott refurbishes computers to be given to families in need as recommended by the Willard School - with 30 completed to date. Scott enjoys running and competing in many races.
Scott has a long, dedicated history of serving the library. When in high school he showed up the day after the fire with his friend Monte Hoyles ready to help pack books and move them to the Quonset hut at the edge of town. When Monte Hoyles decided to go into the Seminary after serving one year of a seven-year term, he nominated Scott to take the rest of his term on the Seneca East Public Library Board of Trustees. Scott accepted another seven-year term. During his 13 years on the Board, he served as President for 10. Scott was instrumental in the creation of the SEPL Foundation, without which the library could not survive. When the library wanted to start having a Reverse Raffle and discovered that the library itself could not host it, Scott led the movement to form the 501c3 organization, completing all the necessary paperwork. He continues to file the end of the year paperwork for the Foundation to this day. During his tenure the first successful Library Levy was passed and he was the Master of Ceremony at the library’s 75th Anniversary Celebration. We want to thank him for all of his time and service to the community. It is greatly appreciated.
This year's auction alone raised $6712.50. The SEPL Foundation would like to take this opportunity to also thank the generous community and volunteers that make this event a continued success!
